In 1930, Hilda is 7 years old, the second oldest of four daughters, living in Burnett Twnshp, Antelope County, NE in a family-owned house on a general farm (they have a radio set). Father Theodore is not a citizen yet, but all adults can speak English. There are no veterans on the census in 1930 and every adult is a farmer or farm laborer with many immigrants (Germany, Denmark, Switzerland).

By 1940, 17-year-old Hilda is back in IL in Minonk making $156 a year doing general housework, most likely for other homes around town while her 20 year old sister Bertha makes $208 a year doing the same. There are many interesting neighbors working interesting jobs in Minonk. She lives next to a man from New York who works in the mine, a man from Kentucky working for the WPA (as are other neighbors), as well as a 21-year-old typist at State Farm named Ruth. It can be noted that the highest paid neighbor is an independent brick layer who makes nearly 3x Theodore’s $500. Hilda married Ralph Oltman on October 21st, 1945 in Minonk, IL.

In 1950, Hilda is living with her kids, husband, sisters-in-law and stepparents in Greene, Woodford County, IL and is not working or looking to work. Hilda died at age 99 in Minonk, Woodford County, IL.
